Termite Inspection, Control & Protection

What are the signs of a termite infestation and what treatment is available?

If you are concerned that you may have a termite problem or want to take preventative action, the first step to treating a termite infestation is a termite inspection.

What is included in a termite inspection report?

All inspections come with a comprehensive report including information related to areas conducive to termite attacks and how best to correct the termite problems, as well as details about all timber damage found.

Areas inspected include (where accessible):

  • Roof Void
  • Subfloor areas unless the building is on a concrete slab
  • Internal Timbers: Skirting boards, Door and Window Frames
  • External Timbers: up to 50 metres, or to boundaries of the property: Fences, Garden Landscape Timbers, and Retaining walls
  • Suspect Trees & Stumps

Why You May Need A Termite Inspection – The Secret Destroyer

Termites aren’t out in the open. They like an environment that is dark, humid and protected, which is what makes them so hard to find — until it’s too late. If you think you have termites or you have found a suspect skirting board or door frame it is very important not to disturb or break open the damaged timber or workings as the termites will shut down the disturbed area and possibly begin damaging elsewhere in your home. CleanMade’s licensed & insured Building & Pest Inspection technicians provide a full detailed visual termite inspection that meets Australian standards using the latest tools and equipment.

Existing damage is what really matters

Determining the most effective termite or pest control treatment is vital in eliminating termite attacks on your home. In all CleanMade termite control services, before any treatment is considered, an assessment is conducted to determine exactly the extent of the problem and how or which treatment method or product will be the most suitable. Small holes or surface wear could be all that is visible and hide a much worse problem.

Flying Termites

In warmer weather, swarms of flying termites can be seen. They are sometimes mistakenly thought to be flying ants or moths. This will occur over a brief period, usually from late October, and is a sign that a termite nest may be close by. Termites swarm in order to mate and establish new colonies. Should you experience a swarm of termites inside your home, you should contact a termite technician immediately, as this can be a warning sign that you have a termite infestation.

Look for signs inside

Skirting boards, architraves, and timber door and window frames which may have blistered or bubbled paint, soft timbers, rippled or bulging wall linings.

Look for signs outside

Mud galleries (small mud tunnels) against walls or stumps, over concrete slab edges, brickwork or foundation posts.

Frequently asked questions

What should I do if I think I have termites?

Contact us immediately to organise a termite inspection and termite treatment plan. If you think you have termites (white ants) or you have found a suspect skirting board or door frame it is very important not to disturb or break open the damaged timber or workings as the termites will shut down the disturbed area and possibly begin damaging elsewhere in your home.

Are termites and white ants the same thing?

Yes, they are the same pest. They just happen to be known by two different names. The treatment and prevention are the same.

What factors increase my risk of a termite infestation?

There are a variety of factors that can render your building at risk of termite infestation. These include:

1. The presence of well-established gum trees within 100 metres of your premises.
2. Use of softwood and other landscaping timbers such as mulch and sleepers that are attractive to termites.
3. Automatic watering systems, timber landscaping and particular building design can all allow hidden termite entry.

Can I treat a termite infestation myself?

Whilst there are products that might treat the visible infestation, we highly recommend a professional termite inspection to assess the infestation and provide recommended treatments.

When should I have a termite inspection?

We recommend that you have an annual Building & Pest Inspection for termites and other pests in order to minimise potential pest infestations from developing. More frequent treatments may be required depending on the type of pest found. Where the termite risk is high or the building type is susceptible to termite attack, we recommend inspections every 3-6 months.

Do you provide certificates for termite protection in accordance with AS3660.1 & AS3660.2 for new builds?

Yes. Before the concrete foundations have been poured, our technicians will place collars around any pipe penetrations that protrude through the slab (Part A). A physical barrier (Polymer sheet membranes) or a series of reticulation pipes are installed around the perimeter of the premises that distributes the termiticide forming a barrier around your home (Part B).

As termiticides are biodegradable, fill boxes allow the technician to periodically refill the pipes (every three years) providing long-term protection from Subterranean Termites.

Once treatment has taken place, a compliance certificate is prepared for you to be forwarded to the builder and building surveyor.
