Frequently asked questions
What pest control treatments are recommended for common household pests?
We recommend a general pest control treatment every 5-6 months. A general pest control treatment includes a spray treatment inside and outside your property that eradicates most common household pests, including spiders, ants, cockroaches, millipedes and silverfish.
What pest control treatment is recommended to get rid of rats or mice?
A bait box service in key locations throughout the property should be sufficient to exterminate all rats or mice present on the property. We offer a professional rat and mice extermination service that includes tamper-resistant bait boxes. Call us today for further advice.
What pest control treatment is recommended to get rid of bees or wasps?
A bee pest control treatment treats the hive, rather than a moving swarm. Generally, we find that the bees will not return after treatment of the hive. We offer complete wasp nest treatment (exterminating the wasps) and removal services, so you do not need to worry about the wasps returning.
What pest control treatment is recommended to get rid of mosquitoes?
A mosquito fogging pest control service eradicates the mosquitoes inside your property. Fogging treats the mosquitoes that are present during treatment.
What pest control treatment is recommended to get rid of possums?
A council-approved catch-and-release service is the best option if the possum is still alive. If it is dead and our technician is physically able to access the carcass location, we offer a carcass removal service.
What pest control treatment is recommended to get rid of spiders?
We recommend a general pest control treatment every 5-6 months. A general pest control treatment includes a spray treatment inside and outside your property that eradicates most crawling pests including spiders, ants, cockroaches, millipedes and silverfish.
What pest control treatment is recommended to get rid of fleas or mites?
Flea & mites treatment includes a complete spray treatment to all affected areas such as walls, skirting, window sills, floor spaces, floor coverings and cupboards. For end-of-lease cleaning, steam-cleaning is required prior to the commencement of flea and mite treatment.
What pest control treatment is recommended to get rid of termites?
The first step to treating a termite infestation is a termite inspection. Termite inspections come with a comprehensive report, including information related to areas conducive to termite attacks and how best to correct the termite problems, as well as details about all timber damage found. For further information please read more on our Termite Control page
Do you provide a pest control service in Melbourne?
CleanMade’s Pest Control team services all Melbourne suburbs and surrounding developing areas.
Are the pest control treatments safe for my family and pets?
Our treatments are non-hazardous* by Australian Standards. All indoor chemicals we use are low-toxicity and designed to affect pests only. The chemicals that we apply externally are slightly stronger to treat the source of pest entry points. We ask customers to vacate their property for up to 4 hours only as a precaution, as the chemical is wet and requires time to dry.
*Important note about rats and mice treatments: Please note that Rodenticides can be lethal to pets and other animals. We use locked, tamper-resistant bait boxes that are designed to be pet-friendly and our technician will attempt to locate them in areas away from pets. However, for maximum safety, keep pets and children away from bait boxes.
How is a pest problem treated by a licensed pest controller?
Options available include gels, pastes, baits, granules, dusts, mist sprays or water-based liquid sprays. The type of application used is determined by the type of pest, infestation severity and access to the source of the infestation. In some situations, more than one type of treatment may be required.
Do I need to prepare my house for pest control treatment?
For all treatments, you will need to remove any loose items from the floor, clean up any food, remove clothing from clotheslines and that the area is tidy and accessible. Depending on the treatment required, we will also ask you to cover all internal fish & reptile tanks and cover ponds.
For general pest control carried out using a commercial pest control spray treatment, you will need to clear cupboards under the kitchen sink and any low-level cupboards in the kitchen.
For flea & mite treatments for end-of-lease cleaning, you will need to arrange steam-cleaning before we begin the pest treatment.
What can I do after a pest control treatment?
If your carpet has been sprayed or treated, you must not vacuum or dry/steam clean it for 5 days post treatment. For all internal spraying, you must not mop or clean residue off treated areas for 3 days post treatment. For all external spraying, you must not wash or clean the residue off surfaces for 5 days. You may remove cobwebs with a dry duster or broom, but we strongly recommend removing cobwebs before our pest control treatment so any new cobwebs can be noticed more easily.
Does a Pest Controller remove cobwebs as part of the pest control service?
Pest Controllers do not remove cobwebs as part of a pest control service. We encourage you to remove cobwebs before our pest control treatment so any new cobwebs can be noticed more easily.
Will I need to be at home during the pest control service?
In most cases, you don’t need to be present if the Pest Controller has clear access and there are no pets roaming free on the property. For our spray treatment, we require that all persons and pets are removed from the property being treated for up to 4 hours (until the application has completely dried).
How long do I need to be away from my property for a general pest control treatment?
Spray treatments are wet and require time to dry. We recommend that you vacate your property for any wet treatments for 2-4* hours in order to allow the application to completely dry. For other pest control such as rodent or possum pest control, there is no need to vacate. For bee or wasp treatments, and mosquito fogging, we recommend that you and any other people and pets vacate your property until the treatment is finished.
*Generally 2 hours is sufficient. However, if you have any children under 12 months of age, pregnant women, asthmatics, or anyone with a heart condition, the vacating period is 4 hours.
What if my plans change and I can no longer vacate my property on the day of treatment, and need to reschedule my booking?
Call the CleanMade office on 1300 932 532. We appreciate that you notify us as early as possible to reschedule your booking. We reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee if a job is cancelled within 24 hours of the booking time.
If I book a rat or mice extermination service will the rodents die inside my house?
In our experience, the likelihood of this is low. Most of the time rodents will leave looking for water after they have consumed the bait. This means they would have left your property by the time they die. However, on rare occasions, rodents may die in the roof, walls or subfloor. We can return (additional cost for carcass removal) to removal the carcass, if it is easily accessible. Therefore, if you’re unsure about the location, we will attempt to locate it, but may charge a call-out fee if we are unable to determine the location or if the location is inaccessible.
Is there any odour left when you carry out pest control?
Generally, there is no odour as most of our pest control products are odourless. However, if there is a dead carcass, there will most likely be a strong odour. We also offer a deodorisation service (additional cost) that can temporarily eliminate all bad smells.
Do I have rats, mice or a possum in my roof or walls?
To help identify which animal is in the roof or walls the general rule is that if you are hearing relatively loud noises and activity from dusk until dawn, it is most likely a possum causing the commotion. If you are hearing scratching sounds any time of the day or night, this is usually a rodent problem such as rats or mice. Regardless of which pest type it is, rodents and possums in your property can cause damage and deprive you of sleep and relaxation! We recommend a pest inspection and treatment plan prepared by one of our pest control technicians.
What do I do if I find a wasp nest?
If you find a wasp nest it is very important that you do not disturb it as wasps can become very aggressive. It is best to leave it alone and call us to make an appointment for a pest control technician to attend and provide a wasp extermination treatment.
Can a bee swarm be treated?
No. We can only treat for bees/wasps if the hive has been located and it’s within your building. If the bees are swarming, they often only stay for a day or so, then move off to a new location. If they hang around longer than that and you’re able to locate the site of their nest or hive, we may be able to assist.
Can a bee hive be removed from my property without killing the bees?
In almost all situations in built up urban areas, the bees cannot be physically taken away. CleanMade pest control technicians apply treatment inside or on the exterior of buildings. If the hive is easily accessible i.e. hanging from a tree or other structure not part of the building, an apiarist will need to be called as they may be able to remove the hive without killing the bees. The safest, and most effective and economical bee removal solution is – where hives are accessible in or around the exterior of the building – to quickly destroy their hives using a non-hazardous, specialised professional bee treatment.
What is the benefit of hiring a licensed Pest Controller?
A licensed Pest Controller is trained to identify pest problems, stop pest activity and reduce future infestations. They can identify environmental factors triggering an infestation, check for breeding and entry points and treat the problem accordingly.
Is there a warranty guarantee for pest control?
This varies with the type of pest treatment that is carried out. To obtain further clarification please call one of our friendly consultants on 1300 932 532.
What happens if it rains?
It depends on what pest control service you have booked. For most treatments, we can proceed. If there is bad weather on the day of the treatment, and your service needs to be rescheduled, you will receive a call from our office before the scheduled appointment time. This will occur when it’s consistently raining, excessively windy, or if rain is forecast within 2 hours of the treatment, as the chemical in some of our treatments takes a minimum of 2 hours to fully dry.
